I'm Ben Shaw, owner of Shaw Works.  My woodworking experience began in 1989, when I had the opportunity to apprentice to boatbuilder Chip Stulen in Suttons Bay, Michigan.  At the same time I worked refinishing antique furniture at Devonshire Antiques in Traverse City. From there (long story short, winding path straightened) my marriage led me to Brazil, where I opened my first woodworking shop.  It was a wonderful twelve years of business and life experience in Brazil.

In 2008 my wife and I returned to my hometown of Traverse City, Michigan.  Since then I have continued working with wood, as well as returned to my boatbuilding roots. Currently I am working on the interior of a 1968 Morgan 30.

My shop is located on Old Mission Peninsula, and I attempt to keep jobs as close to home as possible. Local projects include the renovation of an 1890s cottage, a satisfying job in which we re-use what materials we can and stay true to the original design.
